For Jim Carlson, opening an archery shop helped turn a passion into a career. He first began hunting as a child, which led to competitive shooting, and eventually, a hobby led to a full-time job. Before opening Kansas Archery Center, Jim owned an archery business on the side, along with a job as a paramedic and flight nurse for EagleMed. Continuing to pursue his hobby by learning how to work on his own archery equipment led to his current career. After buying the former Boone’s Outdoors, he moved his family from Kinsley to Manhattan, where he’s been ever since.
Jim has been involved in archery competitions since 2000, which has turned into a family affair. His wife, Sidney, also competes in archery tournaments. Their three kids, Vanessa, Salene, and Jake, shoot as well, and Vanessa helps in the shop.
